Restaurant Bans Tips
Please read and comment with your thoughts.
It’s vital that today’s food service professionals have not just culinary expertise, but also business, management and critical thinking skills. Well-paying management positions in the expanding range of food and food service companies continue to expand around the world, along with the need for educated, experienced leaders.
I think that this is an excellent idea. I like that the employees now have benefits and don't have to rely on tips to make a living. It is very hard living on tips I'd imagine!

I think this is great and more restaurants should look to Bar Marco's and realize that the "restaurant industry is an occupation." And not only is this good for the employees but the owners will all so see how much happier and more hardworking their staff will be with these benefits. And how cool of them to give the tip money to a charity. This article just makes me want to move to Pittsburgh and work there!!

ReplyDeleteThis article is awesome. Working in the restaurant business is no walk in the park. A happy employee makes a happy business, which makes a happy owner of the establishment. This article gives a sense of hope to the culinary students who have spent 1,800 hours in culinary labs breaking their backs, getting third degree burns, and endless amounts of constructive criticism faith in being apart of a business who looks at chefs like myself as people with needs. As I am getting older I am starting to realize a passion in a craft does not pay the bills, it does not give you health insurance, nor does it allow sick days. Reading this article gives me confidence in finding a good job one day. You can’t be so fixated on creating a living that you forget to create a life. 3001 TTR @ 3:50
ReplyDeleteThis is an awesome way to hopefully start changing the food industry and how it pays and treats it's employees. So many of my friends are servers and rely on tips, which a lot of the time is either below 20% or they do not receive one. Not because of bad service, but due to the fact that well not all people choose to tip or do not tip well. And benefits are a HUGE bonus given to employees who have to pay for dental, medical, ect out of pocket and can cost them thousands of dollars they do not have. I love how the owner understands that this is a career for it's employees and they should have the same benefits and salary as someone who works in an office. In this industry we know we will not always be paid as much as we think we deserve but this is showing workers that their work is appreciated and that they can do what they love and not have to struggle to make ends meet if they don't get enough tips.
