Guest Charging needs. Your thoughts?

With todays mobile devices the demand for charging solutions in your workplace has increased.  What are you thoughts on this?  Should businesses offer solutions?  Does the cost out weigh the benefits?

Below is a link to a new solution.

PowerKube

  1. I think that in the day and age that we are at, our devices play a big role in making our lives easier and more convenient. We use them to be in communication with the world around us. This is why I believe solutions like the PowerKube are great for a work environment. When you're on the go, the last thing you want to realize is that you forgot to charge your device and you're going to be unreachable for half of the day. Business should offer more technology friendly work spaces to improve productivity and creativity. The initial cost wont overshadow the results the company will get with this new tool.

  2. In this world today of technology evolving i think this product an important part of a business. We all have at least a cellphone or tablet that goes dead and needs to be charged on the go. Businesses should offer this product because it will increase productivity to benefit them. The benefit of this product will out way the cost because it will be uses more than once and it will always be used by the employees.

  3. I believe that since smart phones have become an important part in our everyday lives that this product would fair well in Starbucks and more businesses should offer this product. However there need to either be an increase in their overall prices in order for them to give out these services for free, or there need to be a charge for the service in order for them to make a profit. There also need to be a PowerKube in the break room for employee use in order for them to help the customer understand how to use the PowerKube. Also the PowerKube in the break room would be a solution to the increasing use of cellphones in the workplace because now managers can monitor who has their cellphone on them during a shift by how many phones are on the PowerKube.

  4. I can totally relate to needing a charge while I'm out- my phone has a terrible battery life. MY solution is to always have a charger with me. I can see why it would be a great idea to have a charging station in your restaurant. There are certain companies that may be more well suited to these stations and would benefit more from them: cafes (like Starbucks) and casual restaurants (like sandwich shops or fast food). I think cafes are the best suited candidates, since people use their devices so much in these places and they are already study spots for college students, work locations for the self-employed, general hangouts of those who live on their laptops. I can see charging stations being common place in Starbucks and their direct competition in the recent future. Whether or not it is necessary is another question. I think that other companies in direct competition with Starbucks will be trying to enhance their brands with amenities like this and Starbucks will inevitably follow suit if they aren't the leaders of the trend. The payoff is more customers and the cost is probably not that high, especially for a coffee giant. I think that the most cost effective route would be a wireless charging station because the wear and tear on power cords could built up. However, no device is compatible with a wireless charging station without extra gadgetry, rendering this pursuit less viable.

  5. I have come to find my self using my phone more often than I ever imagined I would. Every night before i go to bed I plug it in to charge for the night. When it rings in the morning as my alarm clock I unplug it. By 3 pm my battery is at 15-20% and I am looking for a charger or hopping to be home to plug it in. My phone is my lifeline basically. If I know that I will be away from home for a long day I will throw my charger in my purse. More often than not I find myself using my charger. Being that Starbucks strives to make each customers day a little brighter it does not surprise me that they are using such technology as the PowerKube and sharing it with their customers. Companies like Starbucks take advantage of their customers constantly having their phone with them that they send special offers to your mobile device that can only be redeemed with the code or Sku from your phone. So why not give them a way to charge their phones? It is just going to draw them in and make them stay which creases their check total

  6. I have been in the situation where I've been away all day from home and have had my battery come close to dying on myself. I use my phone more than I thought I would when I first got it, with the advances in technology I now rely on my phone to do everything for me including work when it is needed, emails, weather, and to stay connect to people. I totally think it is a good idea that placed should start having guest stations for people to charge their device. The benefits of this I believe do out weigh the costs, yes it may be priced high but if there was a station where I could do this, id find myself and I'm sure other would also at this place more often. It will promote business and satisfaction among others

  8. In a world where technology is continuously evolving, I am surprised that an idea of a charging station like the PowerKube has not been put into effect before now. We have charging stations in airports, why are they not needed in places like coffee shops, libraries, stores etc? Just the other day I went to the Whole Foods on North Main ( this is a huge whole foods which seemingly has everything). I brought my dead laptop with me in frantic search of wifi and a source to charge my computer. To my surprise and dismay the entire seating section which can seat 50 people or more only had one outlet for the entire section. They advertise widely advertise their wifi but have no place to charge computers/cellphones,ipads etc..As a customer, this was an inconvenience, and prompted me to consider going elsewhere. So in my opinion, charging stations in these types of establishments are definitely needed. They would be a one time cost, with little to no maintenance. In turn they would attract more customers and eventually increase their profit.

  9. In today's society, everyone relies on their devices as a means of communication and for work purposes. There have been times where I was close to running out of battery and I was at the library or Starbucks studying and there weren't enough outlets to charge my computer and phone. Companies would truly benefit from a PowerKube station in their establish to attract more people and possibly increase sales and profits. The one time fee would make it worth it to all businesses.

  10. These days, everyone relies on their phones or tablets as a means of communicating to the outside world. Everyone will or already has experienced a moment in time when they forgot to charge their phone the previous night or killed the battery extremely fast by whatever means before noon and which seeks to find a place to chill and charge their phone. Yet, not all businesses have outlets that are accessible and if the business does have accessible outlets, the outlets are usually already in use. So, the Powerkube is definitely an impressive and needed piece of equipment in businesses. Because it would be beneficial to the customers being able to charge their phones and tablets, resulting in benefits for the business itself allowing a coincidental market tactic by which it brings in more customers coming in to charge their phones and possibly purchase items. The benefit definitely out ways the cost.

    ReplyDelete
  11. These charging stations could definitely improve a business by promoting sales and customer loyalty. Cafes like Starbucks could use charging stations to encourage patrons to stay longer, which would prompt them to purchase more coffee refills and food. They could improve brand loyalty as well. I know I would definitely favor a coffee shop if I knew I could charge my phone there, if I ever needed it. Extra food and beverage orders as well as increased customer traffic would definitely offset any initial costs of purchasing the PowerKube system. The charging stations would also help newer or developing businesses to promote a Starbucks-like atmosphere where patrons are welcome to stay at the establishment.

  12. I believe that it has become socially acceptable for people to be on their cell phone 24 hours out of the day. This is not just the user to blame but the universal applications that smart phone accomplish so well. With this continuous use of one's mobile device that creates a constant discharge of power with nothing to recharge the device this would result in a down time for charging. I believe that businesses should offer a solution for the mobile device power struggle only if it is necessary to finish the job because cell phones and mobile devices decrease efficiency. The benefits of businesses being uninterrupted as a result of charged batteries is definitely worth the cost.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Everyone lives off of their smart phones. When phones die you can always find people crowded around outlets trying to get a little more battery percentage before they need to leave. I've been there many times. I think the PowerKube station would be very beneficial but not necessarily in a Starbucks. In order for Starbucks to entice more customers into the cafe using the PowerKube station, they would need to market it. Depending on how they advertize, it could become very expensive. I know that me personally, as a consumer, I would not go out of my way to find a Starbucks so that I could sit there for about a half hour to an hour of my time waiting for my phone to charge. It is just impractical. I do not think that it would benefit Starbucks as much as they would like. I think locations where it would be worth investing in it, is at locations that are in an airport or train station. There chargers may not be readily available and people have the extra time to kill. When people in airports see you have a charger and wifi you pretty much have them hooked. As far as putting the charger station in Starbucks located off of main highways, I think that the investment would be a waste. It all depends in which Cafe they put the chargers in as well as how they advertise it.

  14. I think that this device is a great idea, with upcoming technology. I am also one of those people that often finds themselves having trouble with a phone that has such a small battery life. I, personally would find this device beneficial for many reasons. However, I do not think that these should be used in restaurants. I think it is very disrespectful when a person or people that you are with are on their phone constantly during your time dining at the restaurant. I think this device would only draw people more away from that. I think this device should be offered in places such as Starbucks or local cafes. The social-gathering type restaurants would benefit from this device.

  15. In my opinion businesses offering charging solutions is an ingenious idea. Although it may not be a necessary step, i think all businesses should be making efforts to begin finding more ways to be technologically friendly. Offering to charge a customer's cell phone is a quick way to solve their stress and will in turn create a happier customer. The wireless feature is something that really caught my attention. What would make the PowerKube even more useful is if the product was completely wireless. A customer would be incredibly happy if he or she could walk into a business and see their phone begin to immediately charge.Phones wirelessly charging would create quite the hype, but could obviously be costly if it is possible. Plugging a phone in at a business along side many other devices very well may steer people away. Having more than one device plugged into the PowerKube at once ultimately means customers standing next to each other watching their phones charge. Considering that this day in age a phone is considered an attachment to the body, people may not want to stand next to someone else waiting for their phone to charge. Although the PowerKube may or may not be the perfect solution, i believe it is certainly on the right track to businesses becoming more technologically friendly. The benefits of a product like the PowerKube would most definitely outweigh the cost. Customers will find themselves gravitating towards a business that they know they can spend time in without worrying whether they phone battery will die or not.

  16. Having some form of a charging system can be very beneficial for a company. People are constantly on there smartphones, and smartphones are constantly running out of battery power. Charging stations would help employees within the workplace stay connected and preform at higher levels. However, there can be potential risks with something like the PowerKube. If six people are charging their phones all at once, then it could possibly turn into a sort of social gathering where less work would be done. It could also hurt production because with unlimited battery comes unlimited use of their phones. This could mean that employees will be more willing to play games or do other non-beneficial activities while on the job. However, this could be monitored with supervision to prevent the problem. That being said, I personally believe that happy workers and a happy workplace creates happy customers, and something like the PowerKube would become a great tool to having a successful business. Also, it can benefit a company to use the charging stations publicly. If advertised to the public, it could bring in new customers to the business which would create new profit. For example if I need to charge my phone and I see that a local bakery has charging stations, I would use them. While in the bakery, I would likely look at the menu and order something or see something that I like and come back at a later date to buy some. Looking at both the pros and cons of charging stations, I believe that it would be well worth the cost to purchase something like the PowerKube and implement it in a business.

  17. I feel like this is truly a revolutionary idea; this concept will allow for our already "plugged in" society to be even more in touch with technology than ever before. However, there are other concerns that come to mind with the PowerKube, such as device theft (if someone leaves their device unattended is it the restaurant's liability?), or what if patrons abuse this free charging station concept and visit the business without actually purchasing anything. On the other hand, if these issues were worked out somehow, I feel like the PowerKube could be extremely successful. I wouldn't expect the PowerKube to be particularly marketable to higher end restaurants, simply because in that type of atmosphere it is bad-mannared and disrespectful to be using a mobile device, but for fast food chains, cafes, airports, movie theaters, bars, etc. the PowerKube could be quite successful. Another possible dilemma to take into consideration is the amount of electricity the PowerKube uses (which I'm assuming is quite a lot considering it offers wireless charging). Not only would this affect the income of the business, but also (on a more macro-scale) our carbon foot print as a society.

  18. People rely on technology to communicate and share information. In a business such as Starbucks, McDonalds, etc.. I think it would be beneficial and draw business. We rely on our mobile devices, laptops, tablets, and iPads for more reasons than just communication. People are constantly searching for plugs to charge their devices. A PowerKube would be beneficial because it would draw customers not only to charge their devices but to buy something while they wait. People want what is easiest and most convenient. Technology has trained us to become lazy and dependant on technology to get through the day. We are no longer only charging our phones, people are using tablets, iPads, and laptops. I think it would be benefical during this day in age to have access to charging solutions.

  19. Many people believe that humans have become entirely over reliant on our mobile devices. While this may be true, our mobile devices are extraordinary little pieces of technology that make our lives easier in so many ways. Need the weather? Got it. Want to know what song that is? Spotify. Need directions? GPS. Want to look something up? Google it. People can bash technology all they want, but our mobile devices have become an asset to our every day lives. I try not to be one of the people forever on my phone, but the sad reality of having a phone with only 5% battery will make a sane person drive home in traffic just for their phone charger. I think that having public charging stations will be hugely beneficial to not only customers but also to the business supplying them. It is a possibility that people will take advantage of the free electricity but I think those people will be few and far between. Generally if you're going to go to a coffee shop to use their free WiFi or electricity you at least get a coffee, if not a snack. I think that the Kube is a great idea and I hope to see them in action in the near future.

  20. This generation is run by our mobile devices. They link us to everything now a days. It would be a great thing for more places in the restaurant industry to offer more charging ports and WiFi. Lets face it, its almost a necessity. Even though I think that this woyuld be a good idea, i believe that it would be way to expensive for every place to have free WiFi. A lot of people don't want to have to pay for WiFi when the are out. but if every restaurant owner were to have free WiFi it would be way too expensive. i think that there should be a bit more research on the matter and move forward.

  21. For some businesses, I believe this sort of technology is a great idea. And for others, I think it would defeat the purpose of their business. Specifically, back home, I work at the Perfect Cup Café. This is a little café/bakery/coffee shop where many business people actually come naturally everyday to use our free wifi. Many people come and do work and even some have business meetings. Since we offer free wifi, we mine as well offer free charging services as well, right? Most guys know the good seats near our outlets, but some kids get stuck without an outlet because we don’t have them at every table. So this little charging box would be execellent and probably bring in even more customers! The only reason I think some businesses should not invest in this is if they are a business that has a quaint atmosphere that is more so meant to be enjoyed without the pettiness of technology. Let’s say Sullivan’s Steakhouse for example. This is like a 5 star dining facility near my home. I have only been there once and it was a treat for my dad’s birthday! Literally every table is cloaked in a table cloth adourned with wine glasses and water glasses. Could you imagine if there were outlets and people on laptops and stuff here? First off it would be rude and second off it wouldn’t even be socially accepted! It would be like having your phone out at church.

  22. Whether charging solutions are available in a workplace or not, people are still going to need it. It seems more convent to have them available. I believe it will attract people to come into the workplace and if WIFI is advertised, then the outlets should be too. As far as cost goes, more people equals more money, although there should be a concern for loiters. Over all it seems like a good idea and with every change comes caution for things, but the pros seem to out weigh the cons.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I agree with the intent of the idea and am surprised it has not been thought of earlier, with the rise of technology in our society and how crucial a role it plays in our culture, having this device would be an asset to many businesses and provide another tool with which to lure in customers. since places offer free wifi it is only natural for them to offer this service as well. Although i can't see this particularly being placed in fine dining establishments. Overall, the benefits this device can provide in the future far outweigh any cons i can see, as well as how it will further push new devices to further advances, and also possibly branch out to cover other devices in the future as well.

  24. In today's world, everyone has a cell phone. Technology is no longer a luxury and is known as a necessity for everyday life. The Powerkube is the perfect way for businesses to avoid employee's phones dying while at work. I think the Powerkube would function very well in a work scene as well as a school scene. It may be expensive, but I believe it is vital to have in today's world. It would benefit people and create a less stressful environment in the work force as well as in school computer labs and classrooms. Everyone is always forgetting their phone chargers and regardless if they do remember to bring them, they are not always outlets nearby to plug in. With the PowerKube, multiple people who are in the same vicinity can all charge their phones on one charger. The benefits to this product would definitely outweigh the costs and I hope to see it being used in the real world one day soon.

  25. I think that it depends on what type of restaurant you have as to whether or not you should have charging capabilities at all of your tables. At a place like applebee's, subway, or olive garden it certainly makes sense to have chargers available for your guests because there is a certain atmosphere to these places that makes having your phone out at the table acceptable. People aren't as focused on the food and the service because thats the atmosphere that these big chains have created. At a fine dining restaurant, however, where you're paying upwards of $100 per person for a tasting menu, the last thing that i would want people to be focused on is what's going on on twitter. At a place like that people should be focusing on the food, actually tasting what is in front of them rather than taking pictures and being a nuisance to everyone else paying that much money around you. So there is a place for charging capability in the industry, but not at the higher end establishments

  26. Technology is becoming such a necessity that people can't live without their devices and are always looking to keep them charged. However, I think that there are certain settings that can help people meet these needs over others. In fine dining restaurants you are not only paying for the food, you are paying for an experience. You want to enjoy the atmosphere and aesthetic as well as what you are consuming. Having charging stations with wires tangled around you downgrades that experience in my opinion. I think that we are getting to a point that charging needs have to be met, but in other ways. Devices such as the PowerKube and other mobile chargers can be purchased so that people can satisfy their own needs without relying on public places. I also think establishments that are meant for hangouts, on the go meals, cafes, business meetings and things of that nature could benefit from adding charging stations. The person who is coming in to do work will stay and perhaps purchase more if they do not have to leave when the battery on their device goes red. In general, I think that charging stations need to be evaluated and put in on a case to case basis and are not obligatory in every business.

  27. Truthfully I think supplying chargers in chain resturants, such as Applebee's and panera, would be a great idea. Typically these are places where people are either going to grab a quick bite with friends or are going on their lunch break with coworkers. These are also resturants that are a big staple in the current teen generation's life, whom which we all know are glued to the screens of their technology. The concept of having chargers and outlets available in these facilities is an amazing idea, but personally I feel like this concept shouldn't surpass the level of chain restaurants. For example, when I walk into Marc Forgiones restaurant in Manhattan, my focus isn't and shouldn't be on my mobile devices. When I make a reservation there I want to get the full fine dining experience. I want to enjoy the rustic atmosphere and savor every bite of my multiple course meal that the chefs worked so hard to put together. While I'm diving into the flavor experience of my chilled lobster I wanna be focused on every flavor note and texture contrasts that the chefs put together in my dish, not on the guy doing his work evaluation on his MacBook next to me. I want to relax and enjoy a glass of white sangria while conversation with the couple next to me at the bar, as opposed to being closed off because they are locked onto their phones. At fine dining establishments, the chefs take pride not only in their food but in every aspect of their establishment. They put so much focus in the smallest details, things as simple as the lights and the color font on their menus, all to ensure you're getting every bit of the experience they envisioned. That being said, the outlet and charging areas are definitely a great idea but only in specific appropriate locations.

  28. I believe that mobile power stations should be avoided in fine dining atmospheres, as mobile devices take away from the "Magic" of service. When food becomes cold on the table due to texting or photo taking, it takes away from the smoothness of service, and can cause hassle due to reheating, which the customer blames on the restaurant or the server. At smaller establishments and chains, I believe this is an extremely effective technique, especially at a locations such as Chilis, Capitol Grille, etc. With how many people are relying on their phones and tablets/mobile devices, charging stations can be a bragging point for businesses to draw in customers. The mobile charging market is a huge opportunity for companies, such as PowerKube, to make a killing with an innovative and convenient device (Minus the $2,100 cost for five Kubes). With our younger generations growing up with a device in their pockets or most likely glued to their hands, charging stations are almost becoming essential in traditional sit down and enjoy comfort food establishments. Restating my point, I feel that mobile devices in a fine dining atmosphere are inappropriate and should remain in ones pocket until the meal is complete, to enjoy a legitimate restaurant experience.

  29. While I think it is up to the discretion of the business of whether or not providing a charging kiosk would be of value to their customers, I think there are two major points to consider.

Not only are people connected to each other through their phones, but more than ever businesses are utilizing social media as a means of connecting with and being accessible to their customers. On a regular basis, people check or create Yelp reviews, they tweet problems and complaints at companies as they happen, customers check-in and share pictures on Facebook and Instagram, tagging their location and their friends so their friends and friend's friends can see. It's important to recognize and seize this opportunity, because it's not only free marketing and word-of-mouth advertising, but a potential to personally connect with the customer and keep them engaged in your brand/product/service. So imagine the scenario that literally happens all of the time - I am at a restaurant having an amazing time and the plate that comes to my table is so gorgeous that I just have to share it with everyone -BUT- my phone dies as it captures the high-res, HDR photograph. Forget about the personal turmoil I go through as I am tragically disconnected from the world, from a business perspective, too bad - what is more concerning is that if I don't get back on my phone by the time I leave, this restaurant has passed up immeasurable potential connections. Because everything is so on-the-pulse, minute to minute, and I have the attention span of a goldfish, there will be no doing it later. So no #foodporn #pvd , no pinned location, no @WhoeverShouldSeeThis, no sharing to Facebook where all this would be repeated and a huge missed connection for me to like or follow the business.

On the other hand, I think these charging kiosks have the potential to open up huge liabilities that we cannot begin to comprehend. While I recognize the vigilance people assert when using these charging stations, as they become more popular, people will get more comfortable, thieves will get smarter, and accidents will happen. So while an open charging station such as the PowerKube might post a warning to customers, deny responsibility – what stops that person from telling all of their friends that “OH someone just stole my phone right out from under me at –your business name here-.“ And with alternative kiosks that allow you to lock your cell phone inside with the swipe (and charge) to a credit card, a mutual benefit bailment might be created in the process would then be a duty owed to the customer to protect their phone. Additionally, there are potential threats that go beyond having your phone stolen. It was explained at DEF CON, an annual hacking conference - plugging your smartphone into any given charging station compromises security, as most of these devices are programed to automatically dump their data. The right person could configure the machine to collect this data or even upload data into the phone.

  30. While many restaurants may want to stay connected and up to date on all the new technology that is coming out, but its not always cost effective for them. Not all places would be helped if they get this device because the guests or customers would be paying more attention to their electronic devices instead of paying attention to what is going on around them.
While this device comes with a way to let them keep their devices safe and locked to the table, but there is always the risk that something could happen to it. Most people when they go to a restaurant they want to have contact with other people and not always be on an electronic device during dinner.

  31. Many restaurants are try to stay up to date with the newest and best products to improve the business and make customs more happy and come more. But depending on if you are fast food places or cafe coffee shop then this would be a great idea to get a powerkube. May customers in those kind of places are strategically placing themselves right by an outlet so when they eat they can be on the phone and have it charge because people are away on the phone with work and friends. Although places that are fine dinning people shouldn't have there phone on so they shouldn't buy the powerkube.

  33. Technology has a big impact on our lives; the idea of accommodating the guest’s needs of charging their electric devices is up for debate. Although this is an innovative way to aid a restaurant there are obvious setbacks. In saying this the idea of having charging stations in establishments can be a good idea depending on the restaurant. In places such as TGI Fridays this would be a great idea to attract customers and boost revenue. As a result prices would increase but a potential for revenue can increase as well due to people staying longer and purchasing more food. In restaurants such as 11 Madison Park in NY such devices wouldn’t be appropriate due to the atmosphere of the establishment. Business should offer an option if found necessary but it is really personal preference. In reference to the cost possibly out weighing the benefits it could go either way because you could spend money to make more money and gain it back in revenue.

  34. As technology improves, people demand for more and more. Before, it was wifi, now it is charging station. Since people bring their smart phones everywhere, the batteries burn out pretty fast. To attract more people, some restaurant businesses are thinking about fulfilling customers' needs by setting charging stations. However, I personally think charging station is not necessary. First of all, to put chargers on each table cost a lot of money. And since each device's ability to charge one brand of mobile phone is limited, if everyone on the table uses iPhone, not all of them can utilize the service. Furthermore, the key of restaurant business is turnover rate. If people stay at the restaurant too long, it means lower turnover rate. To utilize PowerKube efficiently in the business, businesses such as Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts where people do mostly take-outs might be the better choice.

Restaurateurs shouldnt give too much money for it.

  36. This topic has both pros and cons to many different scenario's that the power cube can find itself in. Lets start with the good! Assuming we are talking about locations in the food service industry.

I believe this device would thrive and be most beneficial to the consumer in settings such as, Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, Lunch cafe's offering short order menu items, bistro's, Casual restaurants - (Chilies, Friday's, Olive Garden), Pizza Houses, your local family restaurant, Subway and most importantly the bar area of these establishments. All of these locations attract the average smartphone or electronic device user that is generally always on their phone. Having a device like the Cube in your establishment would create a sense of security for the consumer. Once the consumer is plugged in I can foresee them not wanting to leave until they were charged up! This is good if the customer is at the bar drinking and socializing but if they are at a table playing on their phone this could impact the table turn over ratio of the restaurant and impact the bottom line. As far as free advertising this could be beneficial. Everyone is always looking for the next "buzz" or topic of conversation to post on Facebook, This would do exactly that for the location in which it was offered at, creating free advertisement and drawing customers in.
Location's I see the power Cube not thriving in include, fine dining establishment's, fast food restaurants, diners, location's offering breakfast only & brunch and fast casual. Nobody is worried about if their phone is charged if they are out on a dining experience or having a special night with their loved one. The only time I have taken my phone out on these occasions is to use the camera or to answer an important phone call, other than that I could care less if my phone was charged or not. In the case of a place just serving breakfast, let's face it your phone just sat on the charger all night so you don't even need it! That leaves the remaining bunch of places which I feel all have the same thing in common, maintenance. These places in my opinion are high risk. Thousands of people visit these locations daily so you would have to consider wear & tear, with additional risks factors including small children & inconsiderate people who like to deface public property.
I think businesses should offer solutions to consumers but only if it has a proven business model to support the concept. It also depends on the price of the product. Does it come with insurance and maintenance? What is the life of the product? How often do you need to replace the rechargeable batteries? These are all questions you need to ask yourself if you are an owner looking to make this purchase and then you can determine if the costs outweigh the benefits. I would prefer to focus on making good food and keeping the customers happy. That is the best solution for somebody who is looking for a place to eat!

  37. I believe that mobile charging stations should be avoided in fine dining atmospheres, because that general takes away the actual dining experience several restaurants may want to stay connected and up to date on all the new technology that is coming out, but its not always cost effective for them. Personally staying away from from this idea would not only save money but also keep the spark in what makes going out to a restaurant and enjoying the service so special and comforting. In todays generation everyone is so focused on technology that we will soon forget what its like to be without it. I do believe that adding this kind of service in SPECIFIC places would definitely be beneficial but as far as a fine dining restaurant i believe it would be pointless

  38. Everyone today runs out of battery and needs to recharge their phone whether it’s more outlets, a ‘Power Kube’ or a portable charger. It’s very convenient to just walk into a business and be able to charge your devices wherever you are, but for a small fee. Although this is extremely expensive, the demand for it would be much higher if multiple businesses were to have it. They would be great for small café shops or chain restaurants but I do not feel that they are suitable for upscale restaurants. At a dinner table you should be able to socialize and not be glued to your mobile devices. They can have negative effects on closeness, connection, and conversation. I find it extremely rude if you’re trying to have a conversation with a person and they are on their phones texting.

  39. We live in a fast paced world, and as a society are accustomed to having everything at our fingertips in the form of electronics and mobile devices. While these types of devices have made certain aspects of life easier, like work and staying in touch with people, they have their flaws; mostly that they do not have infinite battery life. I can understand if the occasional restaurant guest needs to plug an electronic in, especially if it's for a dire purpose, however, I do not agree that restaurants should introduce charging ports or other technological accessories to support the devices we use most. In my opinion, if you eat out, your focus should be on the atmosphere of the restaurant, the food, and your company. Also, I feel like if more restaurants started accommodating electronics, we as a society would become further addicted to them and going out to eat would become just another motion, rather than a unique and special experience.

  40. With todays demand and how much we as consumers rely on our mobile devices as well as portable electronics, I believe from a ‘PowerKube’ standpoint this is a great idea. It not only helps with the charging issues, but also gives consumers a chance to charge on the go.

However as a customer who might want to use this, I feel that there is a time and place for you to use your electronics. When going to dinner or out with friends or family I strongly feel that your phone should be on vibrate and put away. I feel that it is very rude and disrespectful to have your phone out at these certain times.

From a business standpoint, I feel that it is a great option if you have limited outlets. Although I also feel like it may take away from the over all dining experience. I believe that whether or not you offer this product in your restaurant should be up to the boss and managers of the facility. Although this product comes with a steep cost, it can either improve your establishment or make customer’s upset over the product. There is fine line whether this is a good idea or not for your particular business.

  41. Our society today relies heavily on the dependency of their smart phones, lap tops, tablets, etc. Whenever you look around, most people are hovered over their smart phones. People are constantly searching for outlets when their battery dies and will do anything just to get more battery percentage on their phone. I know that I can live for the day if I'm out and my phone dies, but I know of other people who would have a breakdown if they weren't constantly texting, Instagraming, Tweeting or updating their status. At fast food or quick service restaurants I feel like it would be good to have some sort of charging station or more outlets available. Even places such as Panera or Starbucks would be a good idea because people tend to go there to work on these electronic devices as well getting something to eat or drink. I feel like having the charging abilities at their establishment would draw more customers in and would be beneficial after spending the money to give these services. I could care less if the person next to me at McDonald's, but if I'm at a nice restaurant, I do not want to see people on their phones or tablets. It's all about knowing where to put these things and knowing when it's acceptable to do things like whip your phone out. As a server I would always get annoyed when tables would ask where the nearest outlet was so they could charge their phone. One person actually had their cord stretched across the dining area until my manager told them they couldn't do that. I think giving people the access to these chargers is only adding to the craziness that already exists.

  43. I believe that charging stations should be avoided in fine dining restaurants since it would take away from the pleasant atmosphere. When eating a nice meal, having phones charging on the table would take away the experience. It would decrease communication among those who are eating at the table and enjoying the meal. Usually, when a couple or group of people go out to dinner they want to spend time together and talk. Therefore, by placing a PowerKube or charging station at the table, the restaurant would be selling the idea of keeping phones on the table, creating temptation. In my opinion, chain restaurants should keep this an open idea since it would attract more customers for them and their service is quick. Rather than coming for the overall experience like one would to a nicer restaurant, fast food chains are known for quick service. Therefore, I think that chain and fast food restaurants should think about adding charging options to bring customers in since the younger generations constantly have their phones in their pockets. However, all these devices and outlets needed would add up in the electricity bill, therefore it would be expensive to give customers the option of charging devices. Although it would attract customers and the younger generation, having charging options for customers would be very costly. In conclusion, fast food chain stores may be the only ones who can afford to allow charging options, such as the PowerKube, in their locations.

In today's generation, cellar devices and many other electronics have become very popular, and everywhere you go you will see somebody on an electrical device, whether it is using the internet, making a call, or texting. Yes I do agree that it is causing a lot of demands for more charging units at a workplace, or a place where you eat. With having more charging outlets, I feel like fast-food restaurants, mainly fast service ones, where people come to get a bite of food and hangout should consider adding them into their businesses. The only one's that I will disagree with adding any would be five star restaurants, or fine dining, simply because people are coming to them for a good experience, and also to enjoy good top notch food, rather than be on their phone. Adding charging outlets to where teenagers come to is a good opportunity for more business, since in this day and age we are the main ones using our phones 24/7 and need a place where we can charge them. The PowerKube is a great idea especially for the people in business who travel for meetings and so on, and forget to charge their phone.

  45. In this day in age, our generation is dependent on technology. the idea of adding charging stations in restaurants seems like the most logical thing to do but i do not agree. the whole idea of going to dinner with family and friends is to have conversations and enjoy being around people. having more of a reason to have your phone out at the table is ridiculous. even having chargers at tables around you is annoying because there is nothing more annoying than listening to the table next to you phone make a noise every time they get a text or email or hear them typing on their computers while you're trying to have a nice and peaceful meal. there is a time and place to use your phone or any other means of technology, but a restaurant is not the place.

  46. My thoughts on these devices are that they do not seem like a bad idea. We are becoming more technologically savvy, so why not have a charging station in your facility for your customers to use for their convenience? Being in an industry where technology makes our field that much more interesting and advanced, these kubes would be a fantastic addition to any restaurant or bakery. Yes, cellphones and tablets at the table are rude and should not be happening but lets face it, our phones and tablets are our life. Yes, at dinner you should put your phone away, but if a phone or tablet is being used to interact with the customer and the employees why not improve their experience more? I personally would like to see restaurants invest some time in charging ports or devices like the cube. When I go out to dinner, or anywhere in general, I like to document where I am, who I'm with, what I'm eating, or just post a picture of my surroundings. So when i go out I do not like to be restricted on what I can and cannot do because my phone is dying. At the low end, a single outlet can cost $152.86, that being only two chargers can be plugged in. The kube cost a total of $2100 for 5 units, or 30 "outlets". Therefore you save money by buying the kube instead of installing outlets. I do not see a problem in charging customers to use the kube. I think charging between $2-$5 for each kube, a business can get their money back in no time, especially if the portable charging units are a hit.

  47. In today's society the rate of technology is rapidly expanding, especially the use of mobile technology such as smartphones and tablets. Now restaurants are adding free wifi and public charging stations to their establishments. Personally, I think this is a great way to get in customers, but it's dependent on what kind of restaurant it is. Places like Panera and Starbucks I expect to see charging stations/outlets and free wifi because its a place to get a quick bite to eat and have business meetings. As for more upscale restaurants, I think its off-putting to have tablets or laptops at the table or big ugly outlets next to my table.
The kube is a good solution for personal use, but I don't think its helpful for commercial use. I don't think having a big cube on the table to just charge my phone is practical and takes up space for my laptop, or more importantly, my food.

  48. Technology has become such a huge part of everyone's lives these days that people cannot go long without checking their phone or updating their social media accounts. Having these charging stations would increase customer pleasure, and help create an experience that they will remember. Also allowing customers to be connected to their devices while they are in your establishment will lead to them posting on their social media accounts about their experience at your establishment (assuming it is a good experience) this will be a powerful marketing tool for your business. Personal recommendation is one of the most believable forms of marketing. When someone posts a picture of themselves having a good time at your establishment, all their friends will see it and then have a preconceived notion that they will also have a good time if they go there. Having these charging stations would only make sense in a business like a restaurant where customers come and stay in one place for a while, not a clothing store where they are walking around looking at merchandise and would have to leave there phone somewhere to charge and walk away from it. These charging stations are a great way to attract customers and extend the time that they stay in your establishment. Although it may be cost prohibitive at first, I think that it would even out after more people are attracted to your business. It may also help to raise the cost of menu items just before and after the purchase of the powerkube or another system like it , to help pay off the extra expense. Or even have a fundraiser to earn money before buying one.

  49. We live in a society that is focused on technology and technological advances where we must have the newest and greatest big thing. In a society that is so plugged in I think offering a product that helps to assist in this is a step forward and in the right direction and can create some profit because there is such a demand for it. I think a business offering solutions to common problems that everyone goes through can be beneficial to them. I think the concept of the PowerKube is a good one and a step in the right direction however I could see some possible hang ups on the product itself. The cube has a different cord for different types of devices but what if everyone in the party has the same type of phone or device? What if everyone that is trying to use the product all have androids or they all have different types of iphones (2 iphone 4s', 3 iphone 5s' and an iphone 6) the charging station couldn't adapt to the needs of those groups. A possible solution could be to have multiple cords of the same type and have them plugged in specifically to meet the needs of the members in the group.

If it were to be used in an office setting and everyone's desk is on opposite side of the room I wouldn't want to have my phone or device on the other side of the room. I think the idea of the PowerKube is a great concept but what would make it the most beneficial is if it were to charge wirelessly, kind of like the concept of blue tooth or wifi and the only way someone would have access to it would be through getting the login and password information but they couldn't get it unless they paid a small fee of some sort. By doing this it'll create a small profit and help cover the costs of purchasing the PowerKubes. Now whether or not the pros out way the cons depends on the set up of the business and whether or not it'll be cheaper for the establishment to hire an electrician to rewire the place. The perk of the PowerKube is that if it no longer works for the establishment or works with the concept is easier to dismantle it and stop using it, the same cannot be said for rewiring a whole establishment. I think the PowerKube could do very well it just depends on the establishment.

  50. I think with the rapid increase in societies use of technology, these charging stations definitely have an audience. Anyone with an iPhone can tell you that their battery life is not anywhere near substantial enough for the amount of time they spend on their phone. Having these charging stations would put some restaurants ahead of others. I say some because I definitely feel like these cubes would not be beneficial in all restaurants. In a sports bar like applebees or any pub, sure. These places are already outfitted with TVs so adding some charging stations would probably be highly beneficial. Without people worrying about a dying phone, they would be inclined to stay longer, order more, and spend more money. But charging cubes have no place in upscale high dinning establishments. There is a specific atmosphere when in any fine dining restaurant. No one spending that type of money will appreciate the table over charging every electronic known to man. It might possibly keep costumers from returning, which after all is the goal of any food service establishment.

  51. I think whether restaurants should have charging stations or not should depend on their concept. Do they want people to stick around for a while and study or do they want people in and out quick? When we talked about Panera Bread in class how they started having free Wi-Fi everyone would stay and stick around for a while. Maybe at a bar people would stick around and order more drinks if they could charge there phone on the counter. Sometimes chargers can be an investment like the expensive Kube. Otherwise you could get some bar top or table chargers for around 55 dollars. The concept of the restaurant also has to do with the idea of whether you want people to keep communicating through technology or do you want them to communicate face to face? Does the atmosphere call for a lot of conversations where people can network, meet, and get to know each other? If your phone dies you have no choice but to give your undivided attention to the person you are with. If you think it is a must to have a charging stations don’t put one on the table. The company Juicebox has charging drawers that are inserted in to a wall and your credit card is used as the key to lock it safely while it is charging in the drawer. This keeps people off their phone but also provides a charging solution. Companies like Juicebox charge a small flat fee which brings the food establishment and the charging company revenue. I don’t think companies should charge for phone charging if it is a part of their concept and will make them extra revenue. But if they are doing it as a courteously and it won’t make them much money then I think it is appropriate to charge a very small fee. Also in a busy place like New York City everyone needs to charge their phone, but in the suburbs or in more rural areas there might not be as great of a need for charging stations. If the restaurant is all about conserving energy and going green they should probably invest in solar power chargers. On that note why don’t restaurants invest in more electric car charging stations. The more convenient and readily available the car charging stations are the more people will see them as less of a hassle and actually buy them. The restaurant needs to make a decision on a case by case basis whether a charging station is appropriate based on concept, location, and technological advances.

  52. Having charging stations in restaurant establishments has its pros and cons. It can be beneficial yet unnecessary. As the world around us continues to rely on more and more technological devices we need to be able to accommodate in the food industry. Yes, it would help attract more people as they rely on their devices for business and yes it will be beneficial to the customers in/going to the establishment but do we need it? No one wants to sit at a table with a big charging station in the middle, nor does the establishment want to see people more interested in their device then the food and experience the place has to offer. Although the technology world is continuously changing and more and more people are relying on their devices we as an industry need to be able to find a happy medium. We need to be able to cater to those who rely on the technology world as well as those who are against it.

  53. In today's society charging your phones, laptops etc. is extremely important. I think charging stations would be very beneficial to many places like a Starbucks or any local coffee shop that can afford to buy these PowerKubes. Most small shops this these have free wifi, however, buying these expensive PowerKubes may come at a charge. They are expensive, would that cause prices at these kind of shops raise or would they maintain the same because I'm sure their is going to be a price to use the PowerKubes in their establishments. I also think having PowerKubes in school atmospheres would be beneficial to many students. The first day of school last week I noticed I sat next to an outlet and this kid asked me to plug in his phone. It was distracting because he kept asking me to get his phone for him. I have also seen in bigger airports they have charging stations for a small price you can plug in your phone and within 5 minutes you have a full battery. The only downfall is that the ones I have seen they haven't upgraded to an iPhone 5 charger, however, I'm sure these stations will be upgraded very soon because of the iPhone 6. But, I did notice they have all sorts of different phone chargers on the machine. I think more power stations would be beneficial because everyone is so use to having their phone on them and relying on it for almost everything. MM M/W 1130

  54. I think that restaurants, coffee shops, etc. and whoever that cater to the business people to constantly need to "plug in" should really consider these devices, just as long as it meets the concept of the establishment. This can only benefit the business, which can earn money and bring in revenue, because of these stations. Since these stations are at such a high cost, the cost of the menu can go up, or if the restaurant wants, they can charge the table per hour to use the station. Since these stations will be at such a high demand, the stations themselves will need to be "plugged in" too. So, having a backup in a back room already charged for a proper rotation is important.
And for those who are “anti” technology in the dinning are, there are a few solutions, the charging systems are portable where they can be taken off of the table, but what about the customers who don’t want to see the devices or hear others phone calls? Depending on how fast this grows, restaurants could always branch off rooms in their dining rooms, and have a sections just for device users, and the rest mean for dining out. For example; smoking and nonsmoking sections.

I agree it is beneficial in some cases, you could easily charge your phone, laptop, etc. On the other side you have to think about the cost of buying the chargers, these things aren't cheap! If you own a business there or things you would consider doing a.) up to price on the menu or b.) charge your customers to charge their devices. It a win lost situation.

  58. The powerkube can be a great idea...depending on where it is used. For instance, lets say Starbucks or Panera Bread for example. I think its a great idea for many reasons! Those places have been known to hold work meetings and sometimes charging and power stations can be handy. Because phones, laptops and tablets are being used excessively to assist meetings, accessing online. emails, showing graphs and data, etc. Also, sometimes parents go to those places to get away from the distractions of a family to get some work done. I think the powerkube would be quite the helpful addition.

Now on the other hand, let's take another kind of restaurant for example, Emerils, in Orlando, Fl. A powerkube would be an horrendous idea in my opinion! A restaurant like that is something that needs and requires your attention. Multiple courses with interesting flavor combinations, delicate ingredients paired together, etc. Meals there require you to pay attention, so its not a place to "get work done" or charge up your phone to go on Facebook, instagram, etc. It all depends on the place, the powerkube is not meant to be everywhere. but some places could be quite the asset.

  59. In today’s day and age our culture thrives off of technology, so I feel that it would be beneficial for customers and businesses to offer a device such as the PowerKube. People today are always running to the next event, so not everyone thinks to bring a power cord to charge their mechanical advice. That is why I think that chain restaurants such as Starbucks, Panera, Chipotle, etc. should offer their customers the option of paying a small fee to use this charging device incase they forget to bring their own. I think that by giving the option for customers to pay a small fee opposed to letting their phone, computer, or tablet die would be very beneficial to not only the customers but also to the business because eventually, that fee will have paid for the device itself. I specified chain restaurants because I feel that the option of a power cord or charging device in a nicer/fine dining restaurant would ruin the ambiance of the restaurant, and could cause some guests to have an ill experience.

  60. Providing charging stations is definitely an interesting idea. I think that for certain locations such as a McDonald's, Starbucks, and chain restaurants like an Applebee's would make sense and be a good idea. In these types of environments a charger station is appropriate and makes sense since the consumers there are looking for something quick and more as a place to relaod. In a restaurant such as Top of the Hub in Boston a charging station is totally inappropriate. In the workplace, like a break room or something a charging station is very applicable and would make the workers happier during break time. Charging stations are a great idea and should be implemented, however the target market and experience should be taken into consideration.

  61. In my opinion, humanity has become far too obsessed with the use of mobile devices; so much so that human contact is lost thus making social experiences far less satisfying. Its strange how often you will observe a group of people, of whom 80-90% are blue faced and entranced by their mobile device, with hardly any vocal discussion taking place. Where is the fun in that?? I disagree with the supplying of charging ability in a restaurant environment, I believe in people enjoying each other and not their cell phones. While in a coffee shop, however, many seek to find solitude in work and in this scenario charging ability would not only be convenient but useful to the customer as well. The powerKube does not seem like a good investment, seeing as how expensive they are one would need to charge the customer in some way to use these charging ports, which I personally would not feel inclined to spend my money on. In the right market, this could be profitable, but it is not something I would ever offer for my customers.

  63. Today's society has become more and more reliant on technology- cell phones especially. I think that being able to charge your device throughout the day is an important issue, but at the same time, shouldn't be obsessed over. I think there are certain establishments where charging stations/outlets would be more acceptable than others.
For example, it takes me practically the whole day to fly home for the summer and winter vacation. Of course I use my phone throughout this period of time, and I find it most convenient when there are many areas that I am able to charge my phone. On the other hand, I do not believe places, such as some restaurants, should provide these features. I don't think the experience of a fine dining, four star restaurant should be hindered by people charging their devices. To me, it appears tacky and draws away from the experience of having a good meal. It also delays the meal by people taking pictures and distractingly browsing their phone, rather than reading the menu and paying attention to the surroundings of the restaurant.
For some more casual businesses, it may help their profit, but for more intimate and high end establishments, I think it's unnecessary.

  64. The PowerKube is going to be a great addition to cafes and coffee shops are the world. Just about everybody carries some sort of device on them and their batteries are constantly dying in public. The PowerKube would create a convenient way for these people to charge their devices on the go. However, I’m not sure if the cost of the PowerKube would be outweighed by the benefits. Devices like this can be rather pricey so purchasing it may not be beneficial to the business. Perhaps the profits at the location would increase slightly, but I can’t imagine a huge increase simply because of charging stations.

  65. Over the pasts few years since the 2000's, how we use mobile devices has changed. Before the main use of them was just for calls while you were on the go, but now we are capable of doing so much more. It feels as if everyone just adapted to the changes to me. We may have also noticed the we use these devces on a larger sacle and capacity. I believe businesses should start offering solutions to charge devices in certan areas. This will help cut the cost of the amount of electricity that is taken from the business directly. A few guidelines should be set to get the most out of the charging station and they should also be secured for anti-theft reasons. This can greatly increase the usage out of our devices and will have less worry over our devices going out when we need them most.

  66. Putting PowerKube's in restaurants would ruin the ambiance that the owner has worked so hard to create. But in todays age of technology, it would be beneficial to the customers to have them ready at their request. In cafes where people frequently go to do homework or hang out, having powerkubes would greatly increase their business, and I would be beneficial to have them at most of the tables. For either restaurants or cafes, a cover charge should be placed for use of the PowerKube. I think that if an establishment were to just raise their prices, to compensate for the device, it would be unfair to customers who aren't using it, and risk potentially loosing their business.

  68. Businesses should offer more charging solutions. When thinking about it, prices increase on all sorts of products in the business industry. Prices increased on food, prices increase on drinks, prices increased on clothing. Everything one can possibly think of. The least that the businesses can do is offer some sort of charging solutions for our phones. In society today, a person cannot go a second without looking at their device. It seems as though it is a natural habit, as though the phone is attached to us. Certainly, with a business that has an outlet for charging our device, it may possibly increase the rate of customers coming in. For example, a single mother with four kids and low income with a low quality phone would need their device charged at all times. With a place that includes a charging outlet, it will allow her to feel at ease knowing that everything is okay at home. This mother may continuously go back to that same restaurant over and over again because this is where she feels at ease considering her phone is charging and anyone can contact her in case of an emergency. She will pick this restaurant over those without an outlet.

  70. With our society today being so technology driven, I think that many public places are recognizing the need for charging stations more and more. Whether it is someone's place of business or the bar they're at for happy hour, people are seeing charging stations as a necessity. Personally, I think the idea of charging stations and charging 'cubes' is great. People constantly want to be connected to their mobile devices whether it be for work or fun social networking, such as Facebook and Twitter. It seems as though the need for a charging stations in either a social setting or a business setting is starting to make sense to a lot of people. We see several charging stations is populous places such as airports and I think restaurants and businesses are finally catching on. As for the expense side of things, I think it is well worth the investment. Not only are guests and employees able to stay connected and charged while going about their daily tasks and activities, but it also makes a business, such as a restaurant, seem more modern and up to date with technology thus having the possibility to increase business. Charging stations and 'cubes' can be pricey to install but in the long run, they mostly end up paying for themselves. Businesses and public places in general should start offering more charging solutions. With all of the mobile devices that people are carrying around with them, how can they afford not to offer an amenity like that? Technology is only going to keep progressing and moving forward and it only makes sense that we move along with it.

  71. I believe Americans are all about convenience, so if having the PowerKube makes things easier for us when at any establishment you bet people will be using it. I do think it’s a great idea to want customers to go to your establishment over another one that does not have this type of amenity available. On the other hand do you charge per device or per party? If its going to cost you money usually it will cost the customer money or do you put an increase in your menu items big enough so it will add up over time but not to big where customers will say I can't afford this anymore. How many of these stations will be set up throughout an area. There are so many factors that contribute to introducing this to the industry that it will take time before its in full force.

  73. I believe that it is a big benefit to many places to install charging stations in their place of business. In our fast-paced, ever-changing world today, people are constantly looking for a place to plug in. If someone goes out on a lunch break and is having a tough time deciding on where they want to eat, a place having outlets or charging stations will often force their hand to go there. Of course, I do not believe that higher end places, such as Gracie's in Providence, should provide these things as you go somewhere like that for the experience. But for places that people go multiple times a week, such as McDonald's, Subway, Starbucks, or Panera, it would be ideal for them to include charging stations. The need for charging stations will not go away as our world evolves and battery life fades, so I believe it is a beneficial and wise investment. However an establishment chooses to install these charging stations (whether it be by installing more outlets or investing in devices such as the PowerKube) will depend upon the layout and atmosphere of the place, and ultimately, the cost. At the end of the day, it is a smart decision, and these places should get on board.

  74. In the society we are currently living in, electronic devices are everywhere, including Ipods, Ipads, cell phones, laptops, tablets, etc. The battery life doesn't last forever on any of these devices, requiring us to charge up often. When dining at a local restaurant or fast food, seeking out the table with an electrical outlet happens very commonly. I believe the charging stations, allowing usb cords to be plugged in would bring in more business, allowing customers to enjoy a quick bite or a cup of coffee while waiting for more battery power. I'm not sure if the PowerKube is an economically sound investment due to the price, however I'm sure that our industry will invent the best option soon enough. In the mean time, maybe more outlets, or even outlets that allow usb plug-in. But for the moment, everyone will continue to seek out the table with the electrical socket.

Now for high quality restaurants, I know when I go out to eat, I dont want to see the laptops, tablets etc on the table charging while I'm enjoying a lovely dinner out. The ambiance will definitely change if charging stations begin to popup.

  75. Today cell phones and electronics are everywhere, in your car, at the doctors, in restaurants and every place in between. Charging stations at restaurants would be extremely helpful, it will enable people to continue their everyday lives and still be able to enjoy a delicious meal. Although I feel as though charging stations in restaurants, other than the traditional Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, or Panera, are not necessary at every table. Some families may not want to see other customers with all of their devices out. Limiting the charging station to a few tables or to a section could be helpful to these families. Restaurants could offer a choice to be near the charging stations or be away from them. Bringing in the PowerKube or another source of plug in station in restaurants will help them keep up with our ever changing society.

  76. I can see how having charging stations in fast food style restaurants (i.e. Panera, McDonalds, Starbucks, etc.) would be beneficial. However, at traditional restaurants where guests sit down
& are served, having charging stations present would ruin the experience & interfere with service. If I were a restaurant owner, I would want the focus to be on the food & the concept of eating together, not on various devices. There is already a problem with individuals neglecting their present company to check Instagram or Facebook. If charging stations became a norm in the food service industry, it would only compound that problem.

  77. Naturally technology is advancing every day. With that being said businesses will need to compete to have the technological superior edge over there challenging work forces. The power kube in my opinion is an idea that sounds good on paper, but does not have enough positives to out way the negatives. If a 2500 dollar investment is made for the set of kubes, will the profit from them come back quickly?, probably not. In fact it may take a long time to see any good come from this tool. Also, being a new product there will be a lot of kinks in the design, so it will also bring in expensive headaches. Less expensive alternatives are a must, but they might not have as many options. In addition, with wireless devices today businesses need to be able to cater to guests want for charges, as long as the possibilities to accommodate these guests do not cause a financial issue that will not be received back for the original purchase.

  78. In my slightly biased opinion, phones and restaurants do not mix. I cannot stand it when people I'm out to dinner with are on their phones, especially if we're someplace nicer. If we're sitting at a pizza or cheap burger place, that's one thing. It's a whole different scenario at classier restauarants. Not to mention the fact that the power kubes cost a lot of money. How would the owners pay for it? Would they charge the customers that want to use them, or would they just raise their prices overall? From hostessing view, I'm concerned with the amount of time this would cost as well. Having people on their phones means they aren't reading the menu, eating their food, or leaving. This costs precious turnover profit and tips for me and the servers! I don't want people sitting on their phones instead of moving their meal along. We've seen this without the charging stations- I can only imagine how it would get with them.

Long story short, the cost of the power stations- in both time and investments- seem to outweigh the service benefits.

  79. In review the articles and the powerkube. I do feel that in this modern world the need to have a area to charge our phones, laptop, or other devices is growning and growing. The problem I see is that as people become more comfortable with using there devices in public socail areas then the socail action of having a conversation contuines to go down the drain. But looking from the buisnness standpoint, if you are a large compnay that can offord to eathier buy a product like the powerkube, or have a company ome and install power outlets then it would be a good way to attrach more companies. I would be causes though because there would be a possibility of lossing customers if people are being abnosices about it then it could disrupt others people experence. I would place then near single or double tables alittle bit aways from group tables. For smaller companies it might be to big of a investment for them then to recover from or mainten. From a customer view I would tend to go to places that might advertise these amenities if it dident change the prices of the other products there witch would be another concern for the company to concider.
In all I think the idea is a good and inovative one and probaly will ceache on soon but for the time being it is alittle to soon for the general mom and pop shop and I feel that any compnay that does inploy these ideas will charge to much for the general public to use enough to make it a worthy investment.
I general love the idea though.

  80. Society today is all about convenience and being up to date. Personally, I know I don't leave the house without my phone charger because I go through withdraw if my phone dies while I am out. Everyone go crazy if they aren't able to view the latest picture posted on instagram or the latest tweet from the celebrity they are stalking at the moment. The charging station will bring customers into businesses that wouldn't normally go there because of the amenity. However, how would companies go about charging for the amenity. Would there be a flat fee per party to use or will it be like an oldschool diner jukebox at each table where they put a dollar or however much it is into the machine to use it. Personally, I would not pay to use the charging station, I would only use it if it was like wifi at most companies where it is free to use. It is a great product though to keep up to date with the latest trends

  81. With todays growing technology I feel as though the PowerKube is necessary to an extent. There are many who can not function on a daily basis with out using their electronic devices ( phones, tablets, laptops and more). In saying this though I do not feel as though the Powerkube would be the best way to go for small businesses or fine dining restaurants. The Powerkube is more of a chain restaurant like Chilis or Friendly's, and for larger companies like Dunkin Donuts Starbucks, due to the fact that they will be more financially stable. For the smaller companies like family owned coffee shops and pizza shops I see other alternatives like more outlets located around the shop is a better way for them to go.
In conclusion I feel the Powerkube is what chain restaurants and larger companies in the food industry are going for, but for the local small businesses I do not see the powerkube being for them unless they have alternatives that are more reasonably priced.

  82. In today's society, just about everyone has a cell phone, tablet, or ipad. We are constantly on the go and we always have some sort of electronic device in our possession. It would be nice to know that when I'm going somewhere and I forgot to charge my phone, that there will be some way of charging it. However, I do believe that charging devices such as the powerkube are not suited for sit-down restaurants. If I go to a five star restaurant, I do not want to see a large cube in the center of my table with cell phones and tablets connected to it. It is not aesthetically pleasing and it takes away from the social interaction at the table. I find it very rude to be on your device while dining out with company. I also think it can prove to be problematic because it can possibly disrupt other guests because they hear the table over typing and talking on their phone for the duration of their meal. Overall I like the idea of having a device that can conveniently charge my device, its just the location of these devices needs serious thought.

  83. I think that certain places should have charging solutions, while I also think that coming up with charging solutions is also a growing problem to our society. Yes we are an ever growing society in the technology sense but I think that it crosses a line sometimes. If there is some sort of charger at my workplace I think that I would find myself always running to the charger instead of focusing on my work. I also think that if there are chargers located at certain restaurants that it will begin to be almost annoying especially if it is a fancy or five star places. I think that at some businesses and certain places of operation having a charger available would be great. I do also believe that having chargers available at public places would be more convenient than anything for avid technology users. The problem with incorporating charging stations is the price. I’m sure that it is going to cost a lot more money than you would expect and is it really worth it for these places to spend all this money for a charging station. I think that there are pros and cons but genuinely it’s a great idea, but the con of the cost is what is most likely going to prevent a lot of companies from actually installing these devices. All in all, I would love to go to Panera and charge my phone on some cool charging device, but I wouldn’t expect these changes to come anytime too soon.

  84. I think that in today's world, places need to accommodate to the needs of modern technology. However, I feel that only fast food restaurants and other places of convenience should allow it to be so readily available. People don't enjoy the company of others anymore. Some restaurants don't allow people to use their phones in their establishments. Technology sometimes can hinder a restaurants business. People spend so much time on their phones that they take a longer amount of time at the table than another group of people who aren't on their phones. I've heard stories of people sending their meals back because it was cold. The reason it was cold was because they were taking so much time trying to get "the perfect instagram pic". Enjoy the company of others and try to detach yourself from technology.

  85. As we move forward in the future the use of electronics in our every day life increases, with new technology comes out makes it essential for additional resources to keep our possessions available. The power cube is a great example of a multi purpose device that makes our live a lot easier. Not only being able to charge one device, but multiple without a wall adapter can come in handy wherever you are. There have been times myself, and other individuals’ devices have died and need it largely and there were no outlets available.
Businesses should adapt to the use of technology updates and see how we need electronics in our everyday use. They don’t have to purchase power cubes but could offer additional power outlets, and possibly desks with outlets available for persons who have work to attend too.
The benefits of having a power cube available for employers are endless this creates less use of electricity and helps with the active campaign of going green. The cost may be expensive but the end results for your business will pay off in the end.

  86. I personally dislike the idea of this box. I feel it is a waste of cash, especially with the new technology of personal chargers that can be purchased at CVS pharmacy. If I purchased this cube for my restaurant, I would report it as a “limited life” expense, due to the quick evolution of this kind of technology. Look at the charging ports that Johnson & Wales recently put into the University last year. They are almost completely out of date. (Until the next installment). I believe the cost would outweigh the assumed benefits. Example: The twenty thousand dollars that would be spent for ten of these items, could be spent in other areas; new décor, kitchen equipment, labor costs, refinishing your restaurant bathroom, investing in stock, or even donating to charity for a tax break. This cube can easily be replaced with a ten dollar power strip at Radio Shack, to be used on the side of tables. If any culinary establishment were to provide their guests with more outlets and charging options, they would need to summarize the demographics of their guests, the history and forecasts of the restaurant, and the culture of their food service. (Might I add, if placed ON the table, this device will gather germs, greasy fingerprints, and dust). Overall, it depends on the type of culinary establishment when it comes to adding more charging options for the guests. RB140, Amy Karst

  87. i think depending on the restaurant is wether or not you should have charging stations. if it is a fast food place then they could totally have charging stations because it would fit in there. say if it was a chain restaurant thats not to fancy at the bars they should have charging stations because if you are at the table you do not want to be distracted by your phone or ipad etc. but if it is high end restaurant there should not be charing stations at all. it ruins the flow of the night. it all depends on how the restaurants atmosphere is.

  88. In today’s society everyone is attached to a constantly to their phones. I wouldn’t exactly say this is a good thing but we have to face the facts, people have a demand for chargers. Providing devices like this to customers would put a restaurant ahead of its competitors, give them a leg up. With this in mind it could very well be argued that the powerkube is a good investment and worth the cost. I don’t think every table needs to have a power charger though. On that note, not all restaurants should have these. Fine dining, upscale establishments do not need the distraction. People go to these types of places and pay a lot of money, they don’t need a charger. They need to put their phones down and enjoy the food. Smart phones are amazing things and they are extremely useful but people need to enjoy the little things as well, like a fantastic meal free of the glow of a charging phone. All in all I think powerkubes will be a wonderful product in the proper place.

  90. Clearly, technology has become a major part or our society. It's impossible to go anywhere without seeing people completely entranced in their phones or other mobile devices. While its great that we can stay connected and up to date so easily, its also important to pay attention to how much we depend on these. Making mobile devices a priority in a setting where the focus should be on he atmosphere , food, and the people we are with just furthers our dependency on these electronics. Though the Powercube would be beneficial in relaxed establishments such as cafes and coffee shops, it is unnecessary to introduce it in places with a higher focus on dining. The last thing I want to see in a restaurant is the person across from me staring down at their phone with wires hanging all over the table. It completely takes away from the reason to be dining out in the first place.

    ReplyDelete
  91. It's hard for me to really choose a side. On one hand I would love to have certain restaurants refrain from adding charging stations so I could enjoy the atmosphere and people I am with. With that being said, it is not the popular opinion. Technology is on the rise, and just like new food trends restaurants need to keep up. Adding charging stations would take away from the atmoshere of the establishment but they would also provide the customers with a reason to stay there longer. I don't think charging stations would be that bad, people would be able to stay longer and spend more money on your products. Most people like having the comfort of a fully charged phone, so providing that option would only enhance the customers experience. As expensive as electricity would be, it would pay off. Charging stations would encourage people to come here, providing more income. There could be a renting option as well. Then only the customers that want a table with a charging station could use it with a small fee attached. There could even be a "charging," "non charging" section. If business's want to stay trendy and encourage people to come then charging stations would not be a bad idea, but it would be costly in the beginning. I don't think it would really hurt in the long run, a lot of people will love the option.

    ReplyDelete
  92. As a person who both embraces technology and is an advocate for early adoption of technology, I love the idea of these charging stations. I feel like implementing them would increase foot traffic and have more people sitting down for meals at your restaurant. The most direct issue I feel would come with that would end up being the decrease in number of tables turned over per day due to customers staying longer to let their phones charge until they reach a suitable level. An additional issue would end up being that the cost of charging stations as a primary investment, along with their inevitable replacements and repairs for faulty ones would end up being a decent amount of funds being allocated and as a result, smaller businesses won't implement them because it'd be harder for them to make a profit. As a result of this, those businesses without them will have a harder time competing with those that do. Why go to a local deli for your sandwich when you can go to a Panera Bread that has free wifi and charging stations and only costs a dollar or two more?

    ReplyDelete
  93. With everyone frequently being on the go with their laptops, cellphones, tablets, kindles and god knows what else there is a growing concern for charging needs. No person wants to be without their device, and as rude as it is to be on your cellphone at lunch, sometimes its not possible not to be. Cafes and small restaurants should be thinking about investing into these devices. If a person knows they are able to charge their device while eating their meal and being on a call at the same time they'll be more inclined to go to your establishment. The charging device also doesn't necessarily have to be a free, you can charge for this service or make it complimentary.

    ReplyDelete
  94. As much as we all would love for there to be limited access to phones outside in the "real world", our world has become a technology driven world, which means that everything from business and pleasure might require some use of technology. Adding charging stations could be a useful in the convenience of the customer in restaurants, movie theaters, airports, office buildings, etc...But should be realistically used in urgent situations, so that means if you're just playing a game or texting a friend, and your phone dies, you should not be running to plug it in for juice. However, if you are making "important" plans with somebody for a post lunch or dinner meeting, than you should be able to charge your phone, so that you don't loose touch. Also, charging money to use a charging station might also be a good idea in places such as restaurants because it will limit the use to only people who honestly do need to use it, unlike airports and places of transit, where people in transit with devices should always be able to charge up and be able to use there phone, due to the lack of time to be able to actually charge throughout there days.

  95. Even with a high demand for outlets and charging stations, I don't think this is a great solution for dining facilities. If such device like PowerKube was placed in cafes where people have meetings and stay for a longer period of time, it might attract more customers. However, most restaurants nowadays want fast turnover rate and if they are known to have any type of charging device more people will want to stay longer. From where I'm from, South Korea, extra battery comes with a new phone so there is no need for carrying chargers everywhere. Also, at 24hr convenient stores, such as 7eleven, they charge any type of phones, including iPhone, for few dollars and customers can pick it up anytime. I think this way could be better than solutions like PowerKube in a way that restaurants or cafes don't have to purchase an extra device for their business.

  96. To begin I do not believe in anyway it is a companies duty or responsibility to offer charging solutions to their clients. Even in a world of ever evolving technology the fact of the matter is these high tech pieces of equipment cost money. A key to a successful business is allocating appropriate money amounts to services that will in turn pay you back from attracting additional clientel. The fact is I don't believe the amount spent on supporting such a service would be justified by any seen difference in improved client rates.

  97. We as a society have become dependent on the use of technology. We can now pay our bills, lock our car doors, even alarm our home security systems with the simple swipe on the screen of our smartphones. I believe PowerKube would be beneficial to everyone. The businessman who needs to send emails while grabbing a quick bite to eat, or the single mom who wants to keep her toddler occupied while she gets her hair done. I think these charging stations would be a necessary investment to generate more business. How many times have you been out, fiddling with apps, browsing the net and suddenly your IPhone battery is red and has gone down to 20%? Now you're stuck without a charger and a dead battery or searching for the nearest outlet. Adding PowerKubes would be a way to accept the world of technology we now live in.

  98. In this day and age, people are so reliant on technology that they become blinded by what is sitting right in front of them. When people go out to eat, it is an experience that they should be enjoying with the others around them, instead of the people inside their phones. Although it will be a great technological advancement in our lives that could benefit us greatly, are the ends worth the means? Is it worth it to sit through a dinner with someone who is constantly checking their phone for how much its been charged, or who's calling or texting them. It's already hard enough when people aren't charging their phone directly on the table, and it's in their pocket. Think of how inclined people will be to pick up their phone and scroll through their social media feeds because of how accessible their phone is. A lot of the time, people will keep their phones in their pockets, or even back at their house or car. With these charging stations, people will have an excuse to bring their phone to the table, and keep it there.

When peoples phone die they go nuts because they use them so often that they are a part of life. 101. Even though I am guilty of using my phone during breakfast, lunch, and dinner I don't think businesses should inquire about having charging solutions. It messes up the dining experience so it really isn't special anymore when your out eating with your loved one or your friends. Plus, its rude to just completely devote your attention to your mobile device or your laptop, etc... and forget why you went out, to have a good time! Practically using your phone 24/7, dedicating a little time to yourself isn't a bad thing. There are many cafes out there that allow you to come in and just evolve into your own little world and eat at the same time, but again those places are intended to be that way. Restaurants should stay as just restaurants, where people dress to impress and go out to enjoy each others company and have a great dining experience and amazing food.

  104. It is readily apparent the importance of technology in the majority of the population's day to day lives. By providing charging stations, business's not only are able to attract potential customers by providing an additional service, but they are also able to retain customers longer when they visit which may increase sales. The longer customers are at a specific business the greater chance that may purchase additional items. Supplying charging stations may be a nuisance and slightly costly to business's but in the long term proprietors who don't adapt to the current trends may face a downturn in business.

There is a neat device that can charge 6 phones and a couple tablets at the same time, but the price is wicked expensive. Restaurants shouldn't have charging devices so that people can use their phone the entire time. As a waitress in a restaurant, I've people say that their food is cold, and I look at it, it looks like no one touched it. When you go to a restaurant, you go for food and hospitality, not to be on your cellular device. If there was one at a restaurant, they shouldn't have it be charging for free. Have it charged to the bill at the very end of that tables meal.

  106. I think in today's world, there is definitely a need for the competitive edge over rival businesses. Yes, this day and age is ran by a tech savvy society and their wireless companions. I believe that adding new technology such as wireless and/or portable charging devices can attract crowds such as professionals, students of all ages, and/or those who just cannot separate themselves from their wireless devices. However, in my opinion this addition has places where their services are appropriate and inappropriate. Coffee shops, libraries, student hangouts, and even pizza spots (Just to name a few) have the style of environment that these devices can contribute a nice spin on your time there. Yet, I wouldn't want to ruin a nice dining experience with a huge device lying in the center of my dining table just because the 21st century is computer operated. I am not against the idea but it definitely has it's position in the hospitality industry.

  107. I think that having a portable power solution is important for businesses these days. The company I currently work for gives a lot of its employees company cell phones to use so that they can always stay connected to colleagues and customers. A lot of my coworkers work remotely and travel regularly so having a portable power solution is very helpful. My company actually makes portable battery chargers that they gave out to everyone for free. This has helped me a lot because you don't always keep track of how much battery is left on your phone and it is compact enough to keep in my bag and plug in when ever I need to. For businesses that expect their employees to always be in touch the cost of these solutions is definitely a small price to pay. When we have customers that are million dollar contracts its important for the people involved with those projects to always be available. Questions come up and people need to be able to reach you so that customers are not left waiting and deals can be made not lost.

  108. In todays society we live in a technology driven world. Our devices have taken control of our daily lives. I believe that charging stations in restaurant should be based on the type of restaurant it is. Restaurants like Chili's, TGI Fridays or Applebees have more of a social environment where charging stations would fit in. However, you have restaurants like The Cheesecake Factory and Ruth's Chris Steak House where they have a more intimate environment. Charging stations would not be appropriate in restaurants like this. Having the charging stations would become a big expense for the restaurants. I believe that if they choose to have the charging stations they have a right to charge people for them. Having these charging stations could bring in more clients, but it would also decrease the amount of tables being turned over. People will spend more time at their tables to make sure they get sufficient charge on their phone.

Phones, tablets, laptops, PDFs, etc. are what keep us connected in this day in age. People panic when they leave home without their mobile devices. These devices hold email accounts, calendars, business contacts, schedules, and some people's entire lives. Not only would the PowerKube be perfect for the constant on-the-go person of today but it would be a savvy addition to businesses such as food establishments. Many people who depend so heavily on their mobile devices are constantly on the go, eating out, lunch/dinner meetings, coffee out, etc. Having PowerKubes available in businesses such as these will enhance the experience of being able to stay connected and draw in this specific target market just for the reason they can forget the stress of losing a charge just for the moment of having a meal, drink, or coffee. I believe that in our word today accessories such as the PowerKube aren't just the next new thing to have but are necessary.

  110. Although I completely understand the want for charging technology like this in a restaurant setting, I think that any business that would consider implementing this should take a deep look at what kind of atmosphere they want to convey. Yes technology is important to everyone in this day and age, but I think that having this device would facilitate an atmosphere that is too heavily focused on our smart phones and other electronics. Personally, I think of a dining experience to be about great food, and great company. I think that this kind of technology would be perfect for quick stop places like Starbucks, but when it comes down to a sit down and eat establishment, I think the focus should be more on the dining experience. I still think this is a great from of technology, but restaurants should decide for themselves if they want to bring in these devices that would encourage people to sit on their smartphones as opposed to fully enjoying their experience.

  111. While I understand the modern-day need to cater to mobile devices, I believe a restaurant should very seriously consider the impact to the dining experience before adding charging stations to their environment. For an already technology-forward venue, adding a charging station would probably be a valuable addition. Many of the more relaxed restaurants already offer free wifi and more than encourage their guests to utilize the premises as a quiet area to utilize their technology. Some restaurants, on the other hand, have spent many years cultivating an atmosphere focused on a shared experience. I doubt these sorts of restaurants would enjoy the idea of inviting their diners to bring out not one, but several pieces of technology to charge at the same time. While this rather pricey investment may prove to more than pay off for some foodservice venues, an owner must be aware that a decision like this could seriously affect the direction their restaurant develops in.

  112. I believe that cell phones and technology today have created communication issues and have brought on terrible social interactions for the younger generation and older. Although I am strongly against the excessive cell phone usage today, technology has one of the biggest roles in our lives. Therefore, I think that work places and different establishments should allow for a chance for people to charge their devices. Looking at the costs verse the benefits, the costs would outweigh them by far. Instead of having a device such as the Powercube, establishments should increase power outlets to keep the costs down lower than that of a charging device. This would then have a better benefit than the cost. Even supply a select few devices toward the middle of the room would have good benefits mixed with the power outlets.

  113. Todays technology has truly grown to a different level, many consumers must come to the conclusion that they must cater to the younger generations needs. As many will see today the fact people have their devices glues to their hip, makes it easier for their battery usage to decrease leaving them either stranded or just out of service till they are near a charger or outlet. I believe these targeted locations should have some what of a charging station opportunity that isn't going to cost them an arm and a leg but get the job down in a costly manner.

  114. The mobile tech available today is simply incredible, and business as well as general societies are still learning how assimilates it into daily life. Personally I think there was too much of this technology too quickly, and the public did not get a chance to create social norms for the technology before it had engulfed society. I really don’t businesses need to be catering to people who are dependent on staying hooked in all the time already make sure they have the means to. There is no way the cost could out way the benefits. The small minority that is obsessed with keeping a charge, but doesn’t carry a charger on their person would not cover the cost of the chargers.

  115. The idea of power stations in restaurants is nice but unnecessary. We as a society are too reliant on our devices. By perpetuating that cycle we are breeding a generation of socially inept people. Its seen everyday, people cannot put down their phones, even while driving. By giving service of a charging station we are allowing ourselves to be distracted by life and those around us through the constant use of cell phones. I feel that this is a social issue that must be fixed.

  116. I believe that though this is great technology it doesn't fit into every business. When most people go out to a restaurant they are not just there for the food. They go to spend quality time with the people they are with. These charging stations or extra outlets would encourage people to be on their phones more and it would take away the personal aspect of going out. In a more casual setting, like fast food places or smaller places where you would order at the counter and not from a waiter/waitress, these advances in technology would fit in better. These places are where you would go to do work using your deceive or just sit and use your phone and it would be helpful to have options to charge these devices. Along the usefulness of this technology comes the price. The powerkube is expensive and i don't believe it would be worth it to the business if they couldn't find a away to charge their customers for it.

  117. Five years ago, we did not expect that we would have smartphone such as i-phone. That time, most people used 2g cell phones and they did not know what wifi is. However, our technology was improved more than what we expected. Therefore, our life become more comfortable than before. We are able to use internet whenever we need in anywhere. Then, we have to consider that why our techonology has been improved. Because, people desire that they want to live more comfortable life than present. If they satisfy their current life, there would no more improvement. Therefore, my opinion is that making charging station is reasonable thought because people want to charge their cell-phone whenever they go.

  118. Times are rapidly changing, with that comes new technology or more demand. While, yes, it is not the biggest concern to have such a product, I believe that restaurants can benefit dramatically from this product. The PowerKube can be out of the way and that way your device is charged by the end of the meal. On the other hand, many businesses send their employees on dinners with their vendors, etc and a charging station would be quite convenient for such purposes. The set would be a huge investment to make but I feel that with slightly rasied menu prices and time, the PowerKube will pay for itself with positive feedback and customer return in a popular setting.

  119. Technology has grown a lot in last 15 years. It made humans life much easier and because of that it became a part of today's life. Mobil devices became an essential in today's life, and it caused an another problem; battery. People start look around for a plug to charge their mobile devices, and usually people forget to bring their own charging devices with them. In this video, PowerKube has a new solution for this problem. In my idea every restaurant or coffee shop should have offer a service like this. The device is really practical to use and care and it has many different outlets for different devices which is really good, but to be honest I wouldn't use that device in my restaurant just because how it looks. It wouldn't look nice on the dinner or coffee table. They should build the device in side of a table. Cost of it, is not an issue because firstly, it is not gonna cost much devices and the electric bill. Secondly, you will make your customers happier which means they will come again, bring some friends shortly it means more beneficial.

  120. Technology has been improving more and more everyday. It is improving so quickly that we are letting it take over our social lives. When you walk in to a restaurant, people are barley talking to each other because they're to busy updating their Facebook status, or on Twitter. If you were to walk into a restaurant, I guarantee that there will be at least 5 tables, filled with people on their smart phones, ipads, or computers. If they are not at a table on their devices, then they are most likely sitting by an outlet, charging their device. The demand for charging stations and outlets has increased over the years. I think the PowerKube is a great invention, but is a waste of money for restaurants to buy. Even though it would be very convent for cafes such as Panera Bread or Starbucks to buy because many people are using their devices in these establishment. If I had my own restaurant I would not waste my money on this product because when you are out to eat with family and friends, it is a time to communicate with each other. I personally think that having this portable charging station at a dinner table is considered rude and unprofessional looking.

  121. It seems like it would be a good idea. you could offer the customer the charger when they are brought to the table, like the way some restaurants offer games.

  122. Personally I feel as though it is an added expense that is unnecessary for a business such as a restaurants who's main focus is food and quality of service. When people go to eat there are other elements to focus on then your phone or technology. Adding a charging station may be convenient for customers but do they really need it? Also it would be very expensive to buy and keep operating so would you charge for the charging port at each table?

  123. This technology may increase business in hospitality. There are lots of people who use their electronic devices everywhere they go, but I hope that these charging stations don't become a popular restaurant gadget. I love food and hospitality because of the interaction it brings between people (friends, family, & strangers) and the bond it brings between people. Eating a meal with someone should be an experience and if restaurants encourage use of electronics, people won't be reminded of this culture and they will continue being absorbed into their electronics. I personally have a better experience and one I will remember fondly when no one is interrupted by a text or email. I feel people will loose their real connections with people if we all conform to advancing technology.

  124. I think that the price of the PowerKube is too much for businesses and restaurants to invest in. The idea of this is great, people these days always need to charge their phone, tablet or any other device they carry around with them. In 10 to 20 years this company will have created a more efficient and cost effective PowerKube that businesses and restaurants will have invested in.

  125. I believe the powerkube isn't needed for restaurants. It is an unneeded expense added to the restaurant. If people are that concerned about their electronics not being charged they can bring the chargers to the restaurant. I could understand if it was being used for schools but I think people should be focused on eating and not playing on your phones.

  126. With mobile devices on demand for charging solutions between the work place and other everyday activities I believe that such devices like the powercube is unnecessary and takes away from the real restaurant atmosphere. Todays generation is dependent on technology, real face to face interaction doesn't happen ones emotions is often hid behind meaningless LOL'S and SMH. Although the powercube is a great investment I feel the main focus will take away from being in a restaurant and enjoying yourself to always relying on feeling connected with the outside world. I truly believe there's a time and place for everything and over the dinner table isn't one of them.

  127. Tyisha Colon : This generation all we do is use mobile devices, we use them for everything. It's like we don'n need to think for ourselves anymore. When it comes to our smartphones and tablets they have reminders and planners to help us remember important events. so having the powercube i think is a great idea. because we all know when we have our phones we dont just text or make important phone calls we are on social media's and watching espn highlights, the battery runs down quick with all that we do. but when it comes to the restaurant buisness then i dont think they are necessary unless your restaurant runs on technology, such as when you are seated down and they have the tablets on the table for you to place your order and pick and choose what you want in the food or what you want to take out as well as how long you want your meat cooked for then that would be a great investment and wouldnt really hurt your buisness pockets.

  128. To introduce the Kube technology into your restaurant without having to buy several of them or having it disrupt the dining experience you could have patrons who are low on battery to plug their phones into a charging station before they are even seated. After 30 minutes of charging the waiter/waitress returns the phone back to your table, allowing you to keep your phone alive without causing the traffic of having people get up and check it and also reduce waiting times if there are are not enough plugs. Also encourages people to socialize at the table while they are phoneless

  129. My number one hatred in a restaurant is cell phones. When you are sitting out to eat with family, friends, or a loved one, the last thing we should be worried about is our cell phones. Dinner is meant to be a time of bonding for whomever is at the table. People's dining experiences should not be disturbed by all the random beeps and ringtones, it should be filled with conversation amongst the table. Bottom line, do not pull your phone out in front of me at the dinner table. I may potentially break it.

  130. I think that this tabletop charging station is not by any means a worthwhile investment for any restaurant or eating establishment. The technology that powers batteries in phones and other portable electronic devices is improving at a rapid pace. Before long, phone batteries will charge faster and last longer than ever, making this product obsolete.

  131. I think in todays day and age our society lives in a technology driven world. Our devices have taken control of our daily lives look around you I bet some is on one of these devices right now. The down side to this is that would also decrease the amount of tables being turned over. People will spend more time at their tables to make sure they get sufficient charge on their phone.

  132. I think if we are going out to dinner our mobile devices should not play a role in our experience there. We have all become extremely dependent on our cell phones and should not use them while at dinner, lunch, ect but our generation is slowly becoming more reliant on them and their usage. To install charging stations at restaurants is absolutely absurd and diminishes the experience at the establishment. I disagree with installing them, but as most of my generation can argue it would be beneficial to them to have a fully charged phone to stare at instead of having a conversation.
